La Guitarra Flamenca. In case you're not familiar with Sabicas (1912-90), he was one of the greatest flamenco guitarists of the 20th century and a major influence on all his successors, most notably Paco de Lucía. Around the end of the '50s, he recorded three albums for the Elektra label, known to aficionados simply as Sabicas Volumes 1, 2 & 3. The first and third consisted of pure Flamenco, but in the second (possibly just for a bit of variety) he played several stunning arrangements of pieces from other genres that had caught his fancy - this despite his total. Sabicas began playing guitar at the age of 4 and made his performing debut 2 years later. His early style was influenced by Ramón Montoya. Extensive collaboration with important cantaores (male Flamenco singers) of the period helped him develop his unique personal style. Leaving Spain in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War, he went into exile in South America with bailaora (dancer) Carmen Amaya. Ole! La Guitarra de Sabicas. Here Comes the Cowboy.

La guitarra de Sabicas es la mas perfecta identificaci6n del sonido flamenco. Ciertas soluciones tecnicas que no son mas que suyas requieren deterrninadas precisiones. With the recording of the album Rey del Flamenco, at the beginning of 1966, Sabicas reached a new stage of maturity in his musical development. His work had freed itself of the influence of Ram6n Montoya, and he was able to express himself without hindrance. His style became better defined. allowing his ideas to flourish within new harmonies.
