Wolfgang Voigt (born 1961) is an electronic music DJ and producer from Cologne, Germany, known for his output under various aliases, such as Gas. He signed on numerous record labels, including Warp, Harvest, Raster-Noton, Force Inc, Astral Industries and Kompakt. The latter was co-founded by Voigt alongside Michael Mayer and Jürgen Paape. He is considered one of the most influential minimal techno artists.

Wolfgang Voigt is marking 20 years of Kompakt with a return to one of his best-loved noms de plume. Voigt’s had more aliases than you’ve had hot dinners, but Mike Ink was probably his most immediately recognisable handle for the bulk of the 1990s. The Ink project began life in 1991-2 as an outlet for a string of exuberant acid releases. Particularly in contrast to his clinical Studio 1 work, much of the material is thrilling freewheeling; according to Voigt, Sometimes I play 303 like Jimi Hendrix his guitar with his tongue. The original is a forceful bit of caveman acid, and the Gabber Mix and Acid Mix both do what they say on the tin. Head here to stream the track.

Wolfgang Voigt: This was one of my earliest projects, meshing also with the Mike Ink moniker. Started in 1991, it had its peak around 1996, and of course in 1997 I released the album on Profan. I was thinking very mathematically at the time, so the entire project was based on a concept to do with ratios; in German we call it Maßstab. It’s about experimentation with sample-based rhythmic structures, playing the original key and one tone that is five notes lower simultaneously.
