This Is New is an album by pianist Kenny Drew recorded in 1957 and released on the Riverside label. This Is New. Studio album by. Kenny Drew. March 28 and April 3, 1957 New York City.

Drew is joined in the latter half by trumpeter Donald Byrd and tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley for a handful of cuts from the This Is New album. The feeling is relaxed and the interplay is top-notch, presaging what heights might have been reached on future recordings with the cream of New York's jazz players. Adding to the disc's already high stock are two CD bonus cuts from the trio sessions. A very enjoyable and engaging release.

Kenneth Sidney "Kenny" Drew (August 28, 1928 – August 4, 1993) was an American jazz pianist.

However, for fans of Kenny Drew this is one of his essential earlier recordings. What is a real ear opener are tracks 4-7 where the group is a quartet with Donald Byrd's trumpet is the only horn. The album swings, the ballads caress and carry you along and the blues underpins it all. As always Mr. Drew shows us how well he serves up jazz piano playing that draws on many different aspects of the literature of the music (. he is not a 'one trick pony') even within a single tune. This Is New" collects two of those dates - the first three tracks hail from a March 28, 1957 quintet session featuring Donald Byrd, Hank Mobley, Wilbur Ware and drummer . Hogan, while the remaining selections are from a week later on April 3rd, this time as a quartet with everyone above except Mobley. Contrary to the title, there isn't much "new" about this disc, though it is a solid hard bop outing.
