Not the best Nuns album, nor the worst, "Desperate Children" is this prototypical punk band's stab at '90's mainstream rock. By this point, lead singer Jennifer Miro and Jeff Oleaner might have been the only survivors of the original 1977 line-up. The CD begins with "In the Shadows" which is probably the closest thing the band ever got to a mainstream hit. It's hooky stadium-type rock, sounds almost like "Heart". The rest of the album bounces around uneasily between genres, like the harpsichord melodrama of "Falling Apart" to a redux.

Best known as one of the founding acts of the early San Francisco punk scene, the band went through a number of hiatuses and periodic reunions, lineup changes, and changes in style. Overall, The Nuns performed and recorded on and off from the mid-1970s into the 2000s.
