The Lord of the Rings is the most prominent of several theatre adaptations of J. R. Tolkien's epic high fantasy novel of the same name, with music by A. Rahman, Christopher Nightingale and the band Värttinä, and book and lyrics by Matthew Warchus and Shaun McKenna. Set in the world of Middle-earth, The Lord of the Rings tells the tale of a humble hobbit who is asked to play the hero and undertake a treacherous mission to destroy an evil, magic ring without being seduced by its power.
It followed a previous 13-part BBC Radio version in 1956 (of which no recordings are known to have survived).
The Lord of the Rings is an epic high fantasy novel written by English author and scholar J. Tolkien. The story began as a sequel to Tolkien's 1937 fantasy novel The Hobbit, but eventually developed into a much larger work. Written in stages between 1937 and 1949, The Lord of the Rings is one of the best-selling novels ever written, with over 150 million copies sold.

I don’t know about those light-up Lord of the Rings glass goblets from Burger King. But I do know this: The Fellowship of the Ring, Episode One in Peter Jackson’s three-part screen version of the massive tome that is . Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, really gets those pages dancing. We’ll have to wait another year for The Two Towers, and still another for The Return of the King. But despite the lushness of Andrew Lesnie’s cinematography and the shimmering beauty of Howard Shore’s music (a model in epic scoring that shames John Williams’ Harry Potter mush), the love story falls flat. It’s even more of a shock that the reliably excellent Cate Blanchett lacks magic as the elf queen Galadriel; sadly, all the scenes in the elf land of Rivendell have that overlit theme-park tackiness.
