This is the only Paige album compiled of songs written and recorded by one composer or group

With all due respect to 1979's Live Killers; Rodgers' lone collaboration with May and Taylor, The Cosmos Rocks; Mercury's 1985 solo LP, Mr. Bad Guy; and 2014's Queen Forever, our worst-to-best ranking of Queen studio albums includes only those made by the original lineup. Queen are a British rock band formed in London in 1970. Their classic line-up was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals and piano), Brian May (lead guitar and vocals), Roger Taylor (drums and vocals) and John Deacon (bass guitar).

Queen albums, like the band, were brilliant, flamboyant and preposterous, and the work of a band who lit up the 70s and 80s and remain a juggernaut today. Queen II is arguably the heaviest Queen album. Ogre Battle hit the metal trail, The March Of The Black Queen offered prog-rock retribution, Father To Son was eerily catchy and Nevermore was a prime-cut ballad. Stylistically there was nothing here that wasn’t on the superior debut, and you can hear the band struggling with the traditional ‘difficult second album’ problems. Mustapha had a middle-eastern sense of humour, Fat-Bottom Girls was a cod-macho piss-take and Bicycle Race offered up some neat Carry On-inspired double entendres. Don’t Stop Me Now was the Broadway song Cole Porter never wrote, Fun It had disco pretensions, and Dreamers Ball came straight off the music-hall stage.

Midway through recording the album, in February 1990, Queen won the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. It was a long time coming but richly deserved. The whole band were at London’s Dominion Theatre to receive their award and Brian spoke on behalf of the band; it proved to be Mercury’s final public appearance. It’s a Mercury/Moran co-write and was originally intended for Freddie’s Barcelona album, on which he worked with producer/songwriter Mike Moran. Next up is Taylor’s second contribution as a songwriter, the nostalgic and poignant, ‘These Are the Days of Our Lives’.

Nicki Minaj's 19-track "Queen" is epic and overstuffed, but stands as her best and boldest album to date. Minaj’s fourth album is powered by ual melodies (showing the influence of reggae and Middle Eastern musicality), infectious samples and her trademark mix of foul-mouthed, cocksure rap attacks and sonorous but equally ribald vocals. There’s less quirk than quake to the production, which has an oddly direct, elevated uniformity of tone, despite collaborators ranging from Boi-1da and Supa Dups to J. Reid and Mike Will Made It.
