Green Day, the Ramones, Patti Smith and more make the punk album list. Ebet ty, Ian ty, Dick ty. A: We Are Devo!’ (1978). As much performance-art collective as punk band, Devo screeched their way out of Akron, Ohio, with a brilliantly warped New Wave vision.

The Ramones were an American punk rock band that formed in the New York City neighborhood of Forest Hills, Queens in 1974. They are often cited as the first true punk rock group. Despite achieving only limited commercial success initially, the band was highly influential in the United States and the United Kingdom. All of the band members adopted pseudonyms ending with the surname "Ramone", although none of them were biologically related

Smash Hits Punk and New Wave. Howard Stern: Private Parts (The Album). 1997 Music from and Inspired By the Motion Picture.

The Ramones’ self-titled first album came out in April 1976, and by sales standards alone it was a flop, reaching only No. 111 on the Billboard chart. But with its raw sound and extremely bare songwriting style, Ramones became a founding document of punk rock. For its 40th anniversary, the album is being celebrated with an expanded reissue due this summer from Rhino Records and an exhibition, Hey! Ho!

In comparison to some of the music the album inspired, The Ramones sounds a little tame - it's a little too clean, and compared to their insanely fast live albums, it even sounds a little slow - but there's no denying that it still sounds brilliantly fresh and intoxicatingly fun. Track Listing.

The last of the 1970s punk rock band The Ramones has died. Learn about the band's work on the little known film The Blank Generation. The last of The Ramones, Tommy (Erdelyi) Ramone, has died. I was never a huge fan of the seminal punk band, but I enjoyed their music. It was always fun and sometimes romantic.

Forget album sales though, because the Ramones career-launching triptych of studio LPs (Ramones, Leave Home and Rocket to Russia) is still the bedrock . In closing: the Ramones were a gang that every religious music fan wants to join (yet whose members, ironically, often wished they could escape), to don a black leather jacket, jeans ripped at the knee, and adopt the same last name in brotherhood: Ramone.
