When the late Rozz Williams formed Christian Death way back in the early 80's, the band was more of a campy, death-obsessed punk outfit than the gothic beast they would become under the guidance of one Valor Kand. This band had an image that he was interested in perpetually displaying and when he heard that album, it was too mellow for him. What I am getting at is that every time we release a new record, we experience a similar reaction from people. Each one is thematically different from the next. That is something that some people find difficult about Christian Death, that variety factor. But as musicians, we try to incorporate the desire that we get from outside input and hopefully the listener can take that away as well.

Christian atheism is a form of cultural Christianity and ethics system drawing its beliefs and practices from Jesus' life and teachings as recorded in the New Testament Gospels and other sources, whilst rejecting supernatural claims of Christianity.

Christian Death is an American gothic rock band formed in Orange County, California, in 1979 by Rozz Williams. With major line-up changes over the years, Christian Death has retained "a relentlessly confrontational stand against organized religion and conventional morality". Williams was eventually joined by guitarist Rikk Agnew of the band Adolescents, James McGearty on bass guitar and George Belanger on drums.

These all appeared within the lifetimes of numerous eyewitnesses, and provide descriptions that comport with the culture and geography of first-century Palestine

So he would have looked like a Palestinian Jewish man of the first century. He would have looked like a Jewish Galilean. The point of these images was never to show Jesus as a man, but to make theological points about who Jesus was as Christ (King, Judge) and divine Son, Joan Taylor, professor of Christian origins and second temple Judaism at King's College London, wrote in The Irish Times. They have evolved over time to the standard ‘Jesus’ we recognize.

Another theme is incarnation - the death of Jesus shows humanity that God had become truly human and that he was willing to undergo every human suffering, right up to the final agony of death. Another is obedience - despite initial, and very human, reluctance and fear, Jesus demonstrates his total acquiescence to God's wishes. During the meal Jesus predicts that he will be betrayed by one of those sharing the meal with him, and that another of the disciples will disown him.

It should come to no surprise, then - knowing of Christian Death's reputation for poorly produced material - that many of the tracks on these records ranges from "bad bootleg" to "good bootleg" (tinny, but listenable). Records 3 and 4 are obviously the best quality-wise, the bombast of tracks like "Believers Of The Unpure" eclipsing the poor quality that mars most of this release. Not for the casual listener. Christian Death - Sleepwalk (G) 5:24.
