Individual tracks are strong but work together flawlessly as a whole, and in my mind that is when Slough Feg is at peak performance. Slough Feg's 2003 album Traveller was a concept album based on GDW's role playing game of the same name. With the release of Atavism in 2005, the band officially shortened its name to Slough Feg. Guitarist Mike Scalzi maintains that the band always referred to itself this way internally, and the addition of "The Lord Weird" made it too difficult to find Slough Feg albums in stores (which alphabetized the CDs in inconsistent ways). Slough Feg most recently released New Organon on June 21, 2019. Having returned to their previous label, Cruz del Sur Music, Slough Feg released their album New Organon on June 21, 2019. The songwriting for New Organon found Slough Feg willingly discarding songwriting ideas that didn’t fit the overall picture, leaving several songs on the cutting room floor in the process. Scalzi admits that some of his best songs have written themselves, something that applies on New Organon – several of the cuts here came from songwriting breakthroughs where he was about ready to put the guitar down, only for inspiration to strike

Such was the approach for SLOUGH FEG’s long-awaited tenth studio album, New Organon, which will see the light of day via Cruz Del Sur Music on June 14 in European territories and June 21 in North America. New Organon also marks the recording debut of drummer Jeff Griffin (who split studio duties with John Dust) and joins Scalzi and longtime members Angelo Tringali (guitar) and Adrian Maestas (bass). In true SLOUGH FEG tradition, there is a strong theme running throughout New Organon, which was inspired by the 1620 book published by Francis Bacon of the same name. It presents a new version of the scientific method, as originally presented by Aristotle 2,000 years earlier, notes Scalzi, who is also a philosophy professor at a college in California.
