Lyrics for East Side Story by Bob Seger. Beneath the bare light bulb above She gazed into the eyes of love Bathed in the dirty neon lights. She begged him "don't go out tonight" If we work out somehow maybe We could find a way out baby And he laughed and said "I got to go" And she cried "no" Johnny Johnny no Oh Johnny Johnny no His arms were warm and strong and young "I promise I won't hurt no one" "Oh baby when you gonna learn

East Side Story is the fourth studio album by new wave group Squeeze. The initial concept was for a double-LP with one side produced by Elvis Costello, another by Dave Edmunds, a third by Nick Lowe and the fourth possibly by Paul McCartney. Ultimately it was largely produced by Costello and Roger Bechirian, and released on one disc. The album peaked at number 19 in the UK Albums Chart, spending 26 weeks in the listing box set. The set included the band's first six studio albums, all digitally remastered.

Originally a hard-driving rocker in the vein of fellow Michigan garage rockers the Rationals and Mitch Ryder, Bob Seger developed into one of the most popular heartland rockers over the course of the '70s. Combining the driving charge of Ryder's Detroit Wheels with Stonesy garage rock and devotion to hard-edged soul and R&B, he crafted a distinctively American sound.

And it's good stuff: the sub-"Subterranean Homesick Blues" of "Persecution Smith," the local hit "East Side Story" (a mini-drama that sounds like Springsteen as a '60s punk), the satirical "Sock It to Me Santa" and "Ballad of the Yellow Beret," the storming, twisting "Vagrant Winter," and hints of the '70s singer/songwriter in "Heavy.

Seger said of this song: "My old friend Glenn Frey of the Eagles had an idea that our guitarist Drew Abbott should play along with the piano solo. He and I then went out and did the background vocals together. The line 'Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then' bothered me for the longest time, but everyone I knew loved it so I left it in. It has since appeared in several hits by other artists, so I guess it's O. Seger later clarified: "The only thing that bothered me about that phrase was the grammar .

Is anybody aware of any pressing issues? My copy skips twice at the beginning of Pt. 1 but I can't see any marks on the vinyl itself
Hugifyn
My copy skips at the beginning of side one as well.

sorry it took so long for someone else to notice this. I have a copy that skips just the same as the one described by you.

My version is Cameo C 438X, black and white label, an issue by Quality Records Ltd. Canada. Any idea on the pressing year?

Way before Bob Seger attained any fame, he turned out this garage rock classic. This guy knew rock and roll and 'East Side Story' is as good, if not better, than his classic 'Heavy Music'. The arrangement is nearly perfect, with fuzz guitar and a sinister bass line. The flip side is a bit of a rip-off, as it is simply the instrumental version of the 'A' side, but to any true fan of sixties' garage rock, this is an essential addition to one's collection.
