Danzig 4 is notable as the band’s final album on American Recordings, and as the last to feature the original lineup of John Christ (guitar), Eerie Von (bass), and Chuck Biscuits (drums). Shortly after the album had been recorded, Biscuits left the band, returned, and was finally fired. Just prior to the album’s release he was replaced by Joey Castillo. Eerie Von and Christ also intended to leave the band, but decided to stay for the remainder of the tour supporting the album and left the band on July 5 the following year.
Glenn Danzig’s first eponymous album was a thunderous, Rick Rubin-produced progression of his moody, Evil Elvis sound. It’s the pinnacle of goth populism. Glenn Danzig’s first eponymous album was a thunderous, Rick Rubin-produced progression of his moody, Evil Elvis sound. Who the fuck is that guy with the ZZ Top beard, Glenn Danzig pondered, and what’s he doing going crazy backstage at MY show? It was a sweltering night in July of 1986 in lower Manhattan, and Danzig had just stormed the stage of the Ritz with his beloved goth rock band Samhain. The show was part of industry conference New Music Seminar.

Hard-driving, dark-edged heavy metal unit, a vehicle for the lyrical and musical talents of Glenn Danzig.
The album had much better sound quality than the Misfits albums had which is very good because it showcases Glenn's vocal talent much more clearly. Glenn, who has an excellent, deep bluesy voice at which he demonstrated from the earliest point of his career, delivers a solid vocal performance here. His bluesy voice blends perfectly with the heavy guitar and drums. This debut album consists of ten solid hard rock tracks including his first hit with his new band, Mother.
