DANZIG III also proved to be one of the band's last album to stick to the group's original musical direction. Future releases like 1994's DANZIG 4 and 1996's BLACKACIDEVIL (the latter featuring only Glenn Danzig from the original band) experimented rather unsuccessfully with electronically sounds, a move that alienated Danzig's heavy metal audience. A bit strong at times, but fits the music perfectly. Do yourself a favor and pick up Danzig 3 How the Gods Kill. One person found this helpful.

With III, Danzig chose to omit some of the more obvious blues influences and replace them with additional doses of heavy metal riffage, sometimes almost stepping into groove metal realms. Now don’t get discouraged, because we’re still talking about heavy and not nu grooves here! These are no single-note chugga chugga-cretinisms that started dominating the metal scene around the time. Tomorrow (July 14, 2012) is the 20th anniversary of Danzig III: How the Gods Kill. It would be the last album the band would record before going in a more experimental direction. This means it's heavy metal, rock and roll, and the blues rolled together into one of the most cocksure, diabolical metal albums of all time.

Featuring disturbing cover art from . Giger, Danzig's third album continues to expand the band's musical range; rather than pounding away at simple blues riffs, the atmospheric title track (yet another rewrite of "Twist of Cain," this time at a slower tempo) and the haunting ballad "Sistinas" attempt to match their music with the darkness of Glenn Danzig's lyrics, resulting in two of the album's high points. Danzig's vocals are more subtle in places, and John Christ's guitar work continues to improve. Arguably the definitive Danzig album

I like this album for Glenn's dark, bluesy crooning and for the song "Sistinas" which I find to be strange and beautiful. "How The Gods Kill" is also one of my favs from this album.
