Talk about Nightmares On Wax - Aftermath #1

elektron
'I'm for real' still kills it like it was freshly mixed today, brutal electronic bleeping percussive monster that it is! While LFO gets all the flashbacks, 'Aftermath' & 'Dextrous' were its unsung companions....
Dalallador
Vicious Pink's 80s hit "Ccan't You See" sampled in "I'm For Real" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K34LlUvzkNI , as well as Nightmare on Wax's "A Case of Funk".
FLIDER
I'm For Real samples or imitates Newcleus - Jam On It: https://www.discogs.com/Newcleus-Jam-On-It/release/43541
Quamar
... 'Down, down, down' female vox on Aftermath: Sampled from the 84' electro classic by Newcleus- 'Jam On It' https://www.discogs.com/Newcleus-Jam-On-It/master/34089 along with various other parts of the track on both Aftermath and I'm for real. Warp had such a stake in the bleep game at this stage that 'I'm For Real' was absolutely huge; those bleeps lifted entirely from Newcleus! Great sampling & 2 great tracks non the less.
MrCat
Lots Of 1992 And 1993 Tunes Sampled The Vocals From This Tune, From DJLD The Remixes, E.Q. Addict And The Mario Brothers, Not Forgetting Naz A.K.A. Naz The Started Again Ep..
Just_paw
Great track... but prefer Testone over this.
Golkis
I like both Original version and LFO remix, a good example of the "Bleep techno" sound of that period
Goltigor
...Has to be an error in the notes here... "I'm for Real" sample is actually saying "I'm a real" and is taken from Jamie Principle singing on Frankie Knuckles Presents Satoshi Tomiie - "Tears". Unless I am badly mistaken the vocalist on 'Tears' was Robert Owens, not Jamie Principle..
Teonyo
You're not mistaken, it is Robert Owens.
Delagamand
The LFO mix is just incredible. Very deep, haunting en strong. First you have LFO with LFO en then you have this. What a tune...
Kinashand
another good warp release, they only had about 5 good uns.and this is one of em.
Skunk Black
Only 5 good releases? You're entitled to your opinion, but your opinion here will probably be scoffed at by many many people. 5 good releases... please.
Kulasius
Warp Records only had about 5 good releases? WHAT???!!!
GoodLike
The classic LFO remix takes it to a whole other level. Off the freakin' chain!'Sal Batardes' is full of bad-ass bass, sci-fi stun-gun lazer-like effects and mischievous clonks. Tunes!
Zbr
After 21 years (gulp!) I have just heard the record that "I'm for real" samples at its intro. The "gange up your clock" part comes from Vicious Pink [Phenomena] "Cccan't you see" from 1984. I do love a factoid.
Gamba
The third in the Aftermath series brings NOW's own remix of I'm For Real which doesn't really offer up any radical changes on their classic track just doubles up on the arpeggio and adds different skippy percussion. However if you have the originals like me and can't decide whether to buy this then head to B1 for the proto-Jungle shuffling snares, big bad bass and rave stabs of In Two Minds - pull up my selector!!
MrRipper
The LFO remix of Aftermath is the best of the bunch, perfectly matching the early Warp bleep bass blueprint. Strangely eerie, and really capturing that Warehouse feel.

"There's something going round inside my head...I think it's something I feel...It's something unreaeaeeaeeaeeaaaal" (sampled from Cuba Gooding, the actor's father). Lots of bass on this one.
