His experience of the New World inspired Le Boeuf sur le toit and Saudades do Brasil, with their exuberant and sinuous dance rhythms, and La Création du Monde, which sprang from his discovery of Harlem jazz. Milhaud had traveled to Brazil where he encountered the popular dance form.
