He has released an impossible number of albums over the last 25 years, and his collaboration list is a pocket guide to a persistent, shamanic strain of alternative British music. In the past he has been claimed for free folk and improv, and the press release for this latest album, Belief, cheerfully quotes The Wire’s tongue-in-cheek attempt to pin him down as the post-punk autodidact’s post-punk autodidact. Richard Youngs (born 29 May 1966) is a British musician with a prolific and diverse output, including many collaborations. Brought up in Harpenden, England, and based in Glasgow since the early '90's, his extensive back catalogue of solo and collaborative work formally begins with Advent, first issued in 1990. He also released an album which was entirely A Cappella. In recent years, he has performed more regularly and many of his recent shows have been predominantly vocal - he told The Wire (issue 284) "I went to a laptop concert and decided I was going to sing".

Currently living in Glasgow (Scotland), Richard Youngs is a highly versatile and experimental artist. He has been releasing and performing music since the early 80s, either solo or with a collaborator - and more recently as part of prog revivalists ILK. His work ranges from the affecting Sapphie (a lament for his dog) to the strange humor of Lake (recorded over 3 days in 1990 with Simon Wickham-Smith).
