The group was originally formed by French producers Jacques Morali, Henri Belolo and lead singer Victor Willis following the release of the debut album Village People, which targeted disco's gay audience. The group's name refers to New York City's Greenwich Village, at the time known for its large gay population.

Cruisin' is the third studio album by the American disco group Village People, released on September 25, 1978. Its title is a double entrendre: it may mean just driving around or gay cruising. This became obvious even for straight audiences in 1980, when William Friedkin's movie Cruising was released. Features the hits "Hot Cop" and ". which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was briefly rereleased in 2003 as YMCA in continental Europe.

Village People was the creation of Jacques Morali, a French composer. He had written a few dance tunes when he was given a demo tape recorded by singer/actor Victor Willis. Morali approached Willis and told him, "I had a dream that you sang lead on my album and it went very, very big" The album was a success, and demand for live appearances soon followed. Cruisin' is the third studio album by the American disco group Village People, released on September 25, 1978.

Renaissance is the seventh studio album by the Village People released in 1981  . In spite of being universally panned by critics, the album peaked at on the Billboard 200. The album includes two singles, "Do You Wanna Spend the Night" and "5 O'Clock in the Morning" The album's artwork has found popularity as an Internet meme as one of the worst album covers of all time.

When Village People went on American Bandstand in 1977 and in their music videos for 1977, the group of performers were Victor Willis- lead singer and COP, Felipe Rose was backup singer and INDIAN (reportedly he was the first "character" Jacques and Henri saw in Greenwich Village initially. The Village People exploded on the disco scene and hit the radio with their first big hit MACHO MAN in 1978 and the rest is HIStory. Rispondi Avvertimi 3 Helpful.
