The Complete John Peel Sessions is an album released by Scottish alternative band The Jesus and Mary Chain. It comprises the sessions the group recorded for the late Radio 1 DJ John Peel on his late night radio show from 23 October 1984 to 26 November 1989. Peel was an early supporter of the band and gave them well needed publicity which they were unable to gain from the majority of other DJs and music programs of the day who concentrated mostly on the Synthpop craze sweeping the 1980s.

John Peel was born in Heswall Cottage Hospital in Heswall on the Wirral Peninsula, near Liverpool, the solitary Peel was an avid radio listener and record collector from an early age, cutting his teeth on fare offered by the American Forces Network and Radio Luxembourg. He recalled an early desire to host a programme of his own so that I could play music that I heard. Psychocandy is the debut studio album by Scottish alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain. It was released in November 1985 on Blanco y Negro Records, the band would move away from its abrasive sound with the release of their second album, 1987s Darklands. After quitting their jobs in 1980, brothers Jim and William Reid formed The Jesus, mcGee was impressed with the tape and invited the band to play at a Creation Records showcase event in London, becoming the bands manager shortly afterwards.
