Heresie is the second album by Belgian RIO band Univers Zero released in 1979. Reissued in 2010 as a remix with bonus track) It features heavy use of dissonance and dark, brooding and extremely complex melodies.

After a number of line-up changes, the overall sound is augmented by a harmonium and a harpsichord (played by Emmanuel NICAISE) and a second violin (Marcel DUFRANE). UZ has now found the right balance in its combination of acoustic and electric instruments. A number of concerts abroad follow, some of them in a combined line-up with ART ZOYD in France. In 1979 UZ record their second album, „HERESIE. It contains compositions of considerable length, which strive to convey extreme emotions of an increasingly sombre mood. Following tours of Sweden, Italy and France, (and the departure of Roger Trigaux, who starts his own group, PRESENT), the group is joined by Andy KIRK on keyboards.

The following year, UNIVERS ZERO joined four other groups from different countries (HENRY COW, STORMY SIX, ETRON FOU LELOUBLAN and SAMLA MAMMAS MANNA) to set up the movement known as "Rock in Opposition" (RIO). A Magma influence is readily discernible on the long opening track "La Faulx," which includes the guttural chanting favored by Magma's Christian Vander. In the early '70s, Univers Zero drummer Daniel Denis was employed as a second drummer in Vander's group

You have passed the darkest part of the darkest song on the album. But don’t pat yourself on the back yet. Heresie has only just begun. La Faulx" continues with brooding melodies set to repulsive harmonies and brain-racking complex rhythms. It climaxes with the high screeching of violins reminiscent of Hitchcock's Psycho before closing with a low crash of final despair. If you were expecting prog rock like The Moody Blues or Supertramp you had better think again. King Crimson sounds like Kansas when compared to Univers Zero. This is as impenetrable as it comes.

Univers Zero's debut recording, 1313, may be somber, but it's a walk in the park compared to their second release, which features more or less the same lineup as the first (oboe, bassoon, viola, violin, bass, guitar, keyboards, drums), except for an additional and prominent contribution of cathedral organ from t Roger Trigaux. Studio overdubbing sometimes gives the five-man group the sound of a much larger chamber ensemble  . In fact, Heresie is a stunning one-of-a-kind item that has never been duplicated by anyone - including Univers Zero.
