Halo of Blood is the eighth studio album by Finnish melodic death metal band Children of Bodom. It was released on June 7, 2013 in Europe and June 11 in North America on Nuclear Blast Records. In Japan, the album was released by Marquee Inc. on May 29, 2013. This would be the last album with guitarist Roope Latvala before he left the band in May 2015.

Halo of Blood is a complete turn around from the last three albums. I think somewhere down the line they removed their collective heads from their collective asses and realized they needed a breath of fresh air after their last releases were so stale. Interesting how they choose to release a winter themed album in June, but it’s a welcome feeling and allows the band to return to their Black Metal roots, with the title track being straight up Black Metal, heavily in the vain of Dissection. Sound - 9 Children of Bodom started in Finland in 1993 under the name Inearthed. After several unsuccessful demos they undertook the recording of their first full length album and caught the interest of Spinefarm Records, but changed their name to Children of Bodom to avoid legal entanglements with their previous label, Shiver Records. In subsequent releases the band had a tendency to tweak their sound, adding keyboard and different compositional elements, but having most often been associated with death metal or melodic death metal  . Overall Impression - 8 " Halo of Blood " was a fun album to listen to. There is a fair amount of variety on the album including some really interesting keyboard use to help make songs sound "epic.

Strangely enough, though, that's exactly the feeling that comes through on Children of Bodom's eighth album, which finds the Finnish band returning to deliver another dose of dazzlingly technical melodic death metal. Sure, the album is filled with lots of dark moments and macabre imagery, but listening to it is a bit like watching a fighter plane demo, which is to say it's loud, thrilling, and when enjoyed properly, it's likely to result in some hearing loss. Filled with big riffs and high flying solos, Halo of Blood is an album that's hard not to headbang along to.

Halo of Blood' will be Children of Bodom's eighth disc, and having heard the full album already, we've got some good news to report - it sounds like Bodom! Although Children of Bodom have taken a familiar path with 'Halo of Blood,' the individual songs are arguably the band's most impressive work since their 2003 album, 'Hate Crew Deathroll. in 'Transference,' Children of Bodom deliver some monster riffs while frontman Alexi Laiho's vocals performance sounds more gritty and pissed off than ever. Transference has an evil vibe.
