Henry Gibson (born James Bateman, September 21, 1935 – September 14, 2009), was an American actor, singer, and songwriter.

He appeared on some 1200 albums (leading to claims of the most recorded percussionist in history), spanning a career of four decades before his death in Stockholm of a heart attack at age 60. Amongst others he performed and recorded with Operation Push with Rev. Jesse Jackson, The Artistic Heritage Ensemble, Odell Brown and the Organizers. Gibson, Donny Hathaway and Curtis Mayfield. Aliases: Henley Gibson. In Groups: Ice-9, Odell Brown & The Organ-izers, Philip Cohran & The Artistic Heritage Ensemble.

Henry Gibson began performing at the age of seven, appearing in several plays and theater productions. He however became popular for his comedy act, in which he recited poetry pretending to be a poet from Fairhope, Alabama. Between 1957 and 1962, he often appeared on 'Tonight Starring Jack Paar', reciting humorous self-penned poetry by Henry Gibson' in 1968. The album was originally released in 1962 as 'Alligator'. From 1969 to 1974, he made several appearances on the comedy anthology series 'Love, American Style'. He also worked in the 1975 satirical musical comedy film 'Nashville', directed by Robert Altman. The film, which saw his character Haven Hamilton sing 'Keep a-Goin'', a poem he had originally recited on 'The Dick Van Dyke Show' in 1966, earned him his second Golden.

Henry Richard Gibson (December 24, 1837 – May 25, 1938) was an American attorney and politician who represented Tennessee's 2nd district in the . House of Representatives from 1895 to 1905. He also served as a state chancery court judge, and was a delegate to Tennessee's 1870 constitutional convention.
