Talk about Chez Damier - I Never Knew Love

stay away from the recent repress - not only it sounds like a joke "mastered" from 128 kbps mp3 but there's 1 sec gap in the middle of help yourself.. if you want a laptop dj to sound better than you, this record will help you no doubt. Jokes aside, whomever is responsible for this repress, should be hanged upside down.

The original KMS pressing and 2014 reissue have a short, annoying gap in the middle of 'Help Myself. I'd recommend to get the UK pressing on Network Records, as it has no gap there. The original KMS pressing is the loudest but Network pressing is also fine. The '14 reissue sounds very weak in comparison.

this pressing has no gap in help myself, yeah! but not sure that sounds a little bit dirty in the bass?https://www.discogs.com/Chez-Damier-I-Never-Knew-Love/release/25845

My 2003 repress with yellow / green labels has a gap in 'Help Myself' too. But other than that the sound is fine, NSC in the runout

Same here, gap in the middle of help myself..terrible repress

The 12" version with Matrix / Runout Side A: KMS-048 A RE I (NSC)Side B: KMS-048 B RE-I (NSC)has the same gap at the same time stamp.May be a bad master?

Have you had the same issue on other copies?

Made in Detroit mix is the one.Soulful, groovin' masterpiece of music that just forces you to move. Shame its such a pain in the arse to mix.

In addition to the mighty "Help Myself", it's also about the blasting MK remix here, one of the great piano anthems of its times, both very driving and emotional. Not as trippy and cut-up as MK's other highlights from that era, this one has that particular combination of a moving vocal melody and arrangements mixed with elegant Detroit techno dynamics in the drums and production, that make it a magnificent case of "garage techno" (together with some of Mad Mike's productions of the same period for instance), still relevant to this day.

Help myself put Chez Damier on the map for me when I first heard this in 1994. It's one of my most favorite deep house tracks. It never gets old and it never gets tired. It's timeless and its beautiful. Terrific working of the voice sample leads to the sublime part that really changes your expectation of the progression making every time you hear it as good as the first.
