The Jazz Dance series introduces a whole new generation to the gems of the Fantasy Records vaults. Volume One's highlights revolve around the two alto saxophone players on the album: Gary Bartz and Rusty Bryant. Bartz and Andy Bey's earthy performance of "Celestial Blues" and Bryant's "Fire Eater" burn up this torrid set. When the album concludes with the Latin Jazz Quartet's tune "Rip a Dip," it'll be hard to stop your hips from shakin'. Never cloying, this is a nutritious dose of soul for any hungry listener.
