Marley and the Wailers were touring to promote the Natty Dread album, released the year before. A critic at the band’s show at the Wollman Skating Rink in New York spoke for many when he noted that, Seeing the Wailers live made one wonder once again why Jamaican reggae is so slow to catch a fire in the States. As the band powered through Side 1 of the album with ‘Burnin’ And Lootin’’, ‘Them Belly Full (But We Hungry)’ and ‘Lively Up Yourself’ there was a communal, feelgood spirit that burst out from the grooves of the disc. I Shot The Sheriff’ was insanely stronger than the Wailers’ version on Burnin’, never mind Eric Clapton’s international hit of the previous year.
Another pickup of a real good Bob Marley & The Wailers album. The sound quality of the music was very good. The vinyl was very quiet. Them belly full but we hungry. A hungry mob is an angry mo. "Talkin' Blues": The instrumental work is excellent; the percussion sets the beat nicely. The I-Threes again create solid backing for Marley's vocals. Cold ground was my bed last night and rock was my pillow to. .I been down on the rock so long I seem to wear a permanent screw.

The mutual affinity that binds Marley with his audience is evident in the roars of approval that greet the opening notes of "Them Belly Full (But We Hungry)," "I Shot the Sheriff," and "Kinky Reggae. Likewise, "No Woman, No Cry" elicits a group singalong as the sheer volume of the audience challenges that of the amplified musicians. With this evidence, there is no denying that Bob Marley & the Wailers were becoming the unlikeliest of pop music icons. Additionally, Live! underscores the underrated talents of the Wailers as musicians.
