Golden Lies is a 2000 album by the Meat Puppets. After the You Love Me EP, in 1999, this was the second (and final) studio release from the second line-up of the Meat Puppets. Meat Puppets is the first album by American band the Meat Puppets, released in 1982. The album is unlike their later, better-known releases due to its hardcore punk sound. The album was recorded in a matter of days, there are very few overdubs and many of the tracks are first takes. Like other early SST albums the sound quality is rather spotty; there is noticeable fuzz in the background of the music.

Golden Lies hums with chunky metal chords, suspicious scents of Beatlesque psychedelia and wah-pedal freakiness. 70. Golden Lies shows that even when a good band goes bad, it can still make a great record. But without the name recognition and expectations that go with the first new Meat Puppets album in five years, Golden Lies likely wouldn't even see release. It's representative of the sad state of affairs that the best moments on Golden Lies transparently recall highlights from later albums already past the Meat Puppets' prime.

i bought this because i like the meat puppets and it was one of the few CDs of theres on here, but i found it to lack what i so like about the meat puppets, there originality. The songs, though good, lacked the originality, heart and craftsmanship of there earlier work, At best there music sounds almost bespoke and tailor made to there fans but this album feels a little to generic of the era, i think only for collectors and die hard fans.
