The Baby Huey Story: The Living Legend is the only album of Baby Huey that has been released to date. It was put together and released in 1971 after his death. The title refers to the "legend" of Baby Huey that survives after his death. Baby Huey was in the midst of recording tracks for his debut album when he died as a result of a heart attack in 1970.

James Ramey (August 17, 1944 – October 28, 1970), better known as Baby Huey, was an American rock and soul singer. He was the frontman for the band Baby Huey & the Babysitters, whose sole LP for Curtom Records in 1971 was influential in the development of hip hop music. A native of Richmond, Indiana, James was the son of Robert and Ernestine Ramey. He moved to Chicago, Illinois at the age of nineteen, and worked with several local bands as a singer.

Amazing Soul-Funk masterpiece from the very early seventies, "Listen To Me" was produced by the legendary Curtis Mayfield (the one from "Freddy's Dead") and released as part of "The Baby Huey Story - The Living Legend" on Curtom (1971), Mayfield's label. Baby Huey & The Babysitters were more than well-known for their club performances during the sixties in the Chicago area, which is probably at the origin of the approach between Huey & Mayfield.

Baby Huey's only album, released after his untimely death, is titled The Living Legend with good reason. Beyond his unusual appearance, though, he was graced with a stunning, fierce voice on par with Otis Redding and Howard Tate, wailing and howling one moment and oddly tender and sentimental.

Can anybody comment on how this pressing sounds? Thank you.

It sounds very good, but not as good as the 2018 pressing Run Out Groove reissues for Record Store Day. This one includes the original “Mighty Mighty” single as a bonus track, though.
