Soul Jazz Records Presents Steppas Delight, Vol. 2: Dubstep Present to Future, Pt. Soul Jazz SJRLP 222V1.

If the second volume of Soul Jazz's annual roundup is anything to go by, it withdraws into itself and hopes the rest of the world goes away. While there are odd moments of inspired future-primitive electronica from Benga and Cluekid that transcend the genre, the indistinct, off-the-rack tropes of stoned beats, churning basslines and retro synths here quickly start to grate. Name acts such as Darkstar sit uncomfortably among the mediocrity, and are far better served on the excellent Hyperdub 5 compilation

Talk about Various - Steppas' Delight 2 Volume 2

Kanek
3xLP compilation. Although I had some doubts when I picked it up at the store, it was definitely a pleasant surprise. Very good sound, nice press. While the tracks are a bit uneven there are several very good titles which all would deserve a 12" issue of their own, including a James Blake track on Side E (other stuff on this vinyl more interesting in fact).
