Low Budget is the seventeenth studio album by the English rock group, The Kinks, released in 1979. Following the minor success of their 1978 album Misfits, the band recorded the majority of the album in New York rather than London. Unlike the more nostalgic themes of many Kinks albums prior to Low Budget, the album contains many songs that appeal to current events of the time.

Budget albums (also known as drugstore records or, then, junk records) were low-priced vinyl LPs of popular and classical music released during the 1950s to 1970s consisting either of previously released material (usually the releases from major labels featuring older performances of well-known performers) or material recorded especially for the line (often cover versions of popular songs made famous by name artists sung or performed on these albums by usually unidentified and unknown entertainers).

Does anyone know of any comercially successful album that has been recorded on budget low end gear or in a home studio? Is the the point of home recording to make a relatively good demo to get artists noticed? Has anyone ever recorded a home demo for someone that has gone on to bigger and better things? . Not sure where Seth Lakeman's album got to in the charts, sure it did though after its Mercury album nomination. He recorded that in his brother's kitchen in a £200 budget or something like that. Reason: afterthought.
