The original Brides of Funkenstein were Lynn Mabry and Dawn Silva, two vocalists who were background singers for Sly and the Family Stone in the mid-70s. George Clinton first met them while Sly was opening for Parliament, Funkadelic and offered them to join the . unk camp in 1977. The year later, the Brides debut album "Funk or Walk" was released. With the help of their hit single "Disco to Go", the album went gold.

The Brides of Funkenstein are an American funk musical group originally composed of singers Dawn Silva and Lynn Mabry. Previously background singers for Sly Stone, Mabry and Silva joined the P-Funk collective in the mid-1970s. George Clinton named the group (based on a storyline and characters from the Parliament album The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein). The Brides provided the vocals for the 1977 album Game, Dames and Guitar Thangs by P-Funk guitarist Eddie Hazel.
