David Bowie is the self-titled debut studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 1 June 1967, on Deram Records. Its content bears little overt resemblance to the type of music that later made him famous, such as the folk rock of "Space Oddity" or the glam rock of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

You like David Bowie? His early work was a little too jazzy for my taste, but when Hunky Dory came out in '71, I think he really came into the mainstream, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Freddie Mercury and Alice Cooper, but I think Bowie had a far more flamboyant, androgynous sense of style. In '72, Bowie released this, The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spider From Mars, his most critically acclaimed album

Then we were Ziggy's band. Ziggy played for time, Jiving us that we were voodoo. The kids were just crass, He was the nazz, With God given ass. He took it all too far, But, boy, Could he play guitar!. Making love to his ego, Ziggy sucked up into his mind, Like a leper Messiah, When the kids had killed the man I had to break up the band!.

Notes

"The first nine songs on this album were recorded for the BBC "In Concert" radio show in 1971 (sometime between the release of THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD and HUNKY DORY). The final song is a jam with Marc Bolan taken from Marc's own TV show "MARC", it was recorded only days before his tragic death."
