Nikolai Demidenko is a celebrated piano virtuoso, considered a leading exponent of the Russian school of playing. Sergey Prokofiev: Visions fugitives; Alexander Scriabin: Vers la flamme; Sonata No. 9 "Black Mass".

Scriabin was one of the most innovative and most controversial of early modern composers. The Great Soviet Encyclopedia said of Scriabin that "no composer has had more scorn heaped on him or greater love bestowed. Like all of his relatives, he followed a military path and served as a military attaché in the status of Active State Councillor; he was appointed a honorary consul in Lausanne during his later years. Alexander's father left the infant Sasha (as he was known) with his grandmother, great aunt, and aunt. The work of Nikolai Roslavets, unlike that of Prokofiev and Stravinsky, is often seen as a direct extension of Scriabin's.

Release group information. Artist: Scriabin, Prokofiev; Nikolai Demidenko.

Nikolai Anatolievich Demidenko (born July 1, 1955, Aniskino) is a Soviet-Russian-born classical pianist. Demidenko studied at the Moscow Gnessin School with Anna Kantor and at the Moscow Conservatoire under Dmitri Bashkirov. He was a finalist at the 1976 Montreal International Piano Competition and the 1978 Tchaikovsky International Competition. Vers la flamme (Toward the flame), Op. 72, is one of Alexander Scriabin's last pieces for piano, written in 1914. The melody is very simple, consisting mainly of descending half steps, but the unusual harmonies and difficult tremolos create an intense, fiery luminance.
