The five- LP version of The Complete Studio Albums 1990-2000 features each album pressed on different coloured vinyl (see the track listing below for colours) plus a bonus translucent yellow seven-inch single featuring two rare, non-album tracks on vinyl for the first time. The first is the delightfully named Piss, a song recorded during the Vulgar Display of Power sessions but which didn’t make the album  . The CD set also has the benefit of remastered versions of all tracks on the Far Beyond Driven album. The Complete Studio Albums 1990-2000 is released on 18 December 2015. Vinyl box set (5LP + 7″ vinyl).

Flower
"Cowboys" sounds better here than the original 1990 cd. Slightly warmer, richer and punchier."Vulgar" becomes a matter of taste, the original 1992 cd has a bit more air to it (typical pre-remaster 90's cd) but also maybe a bit thinner. This ends up being a matter of digital/analog taste. Either you like the original 90's cd sound (after all, this album was made in the big-time cd-era, but still recorded on analog tape), or you go for the more analog sounding vinyl here and lose a bit of top-end, which can be a blessing."Far Beyond Driven" is the worst sounding record here. Flat, muddy and dull at a very low volume gives this album NO justice. The original 1994 cd, or even better: the double Rhino R1 92302 vinyl is definitely the pick here, as it sound exactly like this album is supposed to sound: POWERFUL, dynamic, crystal clear and beautiful."Trendkill" sounds much better than the 1996 cd. The drums really comes out here and it has much better dynamics than the thin sounding cd. I personally like that they have edited out Suicide Note pt. 1 and the outro of Floods, as I never liked them (I mean, go ahead and listen to Led Zeppelin in the studio, but don't copy them and put it on the record.) I never felt they belonged on the record, and their absence here makes this album better than ever, as it becomes a more focused and heavy record. Good riddance, and a great upgrade."Reinventing the Steel" is the same as for "Trendkill", a absolute upgrade soundwise from the cd, for the same reasons as mentioned above. Punchier and more PANTERA.

My only complaint with this collection is that on the great southern trendkill they omitted suicide note pt 1 and the outro solo to floods, however that being said it is cool to have the albums on coloured vinyl i may end up buying the black vinyl true to the cd version of trendkill at some point though we shall see.

I just bought this set recently and so I thought I’d do a little review. I also recently bought the gatefold Rhino Pantera reissues – all of which were double LP except Reinventing the Steel (RTS). I’ll refer to the other albums as Cowboys From Hell (CFH), Vulgar Display Of Power (VDOP), Far Beyond Driven (FBD) and The Great Southern Trendkill (TGST) similarly. I should also mention that I own all the originals on CD and have been a fan since CFH was released (I learned of their earlier stuff far later). Some comparisons to the gatefold reissues may be mentioned as well as my recollection of the original albums I had some time ago. I have not spent enough time to compare these sonically to the gatefolds. Even if I did I would convince myself the gatefold double lps are better because isn’t more always better? No, is the answer. That brings me to my reason for buying this set. Side 3 (particularly Clash and Medicine) of the CFH gatefold reissue was so atrocious that I bought another, then another and then I gave up. I figured maybe buy the box set so that’s what landed me here. Getting back to sonics – they sound just fine (probably great in my mind). I run all my vinyl in a very modest system – a Denon DP-300F with an Ortofon Blue cart – pre-amp disabled as to use the one in my system which is an Emotiva XSP-1 preamplifier going to 2 Emotiva BASx amplifiers powering 2 zones – one with Polk Ti300 towers and the other is Klipsch. Visually these records are pretty cool. I must note the artwork is identical in terms of quality to the gatefold reissues Rhino did. The fronts and backs are indiscernible (no barcodes on the box sets jackets). TGST has a different track listing than the gatefold but more on that later. They are all colored – which I am a big fan of. Now for the stuff everyone seems to care about – the rest of the product. I’m trying hard to NOT be a collector. I’m a listener. However I do love a complete product. The first Rhino reissue that pissed me off was in the Dio box where they left out a printed insert for The Last in Line. By the way – they did the same for the very recent reissue of that same album on blue vinyl. Just sayin’. Ok – so for CFH… nice white vinyl probably to match the band and album name logo (could have gone white/black marble but whatevs). I’m seeing some comments about the lack of a printed insert. It’ true. No printed insert. I’m 99.9% sure my original CFH did not have one neither. Note that the gatefold reissue DOES have printed inserts but it’s just black with the Pantera logo. Nothing that special except that the gatefold does have lyrics printed inside the gatefold but hey… that’s why you pay extra for gatefolds. Next up is VDOP. It DOES have an insert and it is, in fact, a printed sleeve. Looks like the original. On the gatefold it was doubled up (duh) to be one black and one white. The record is translucent red, I guess, to match the red of the album logo. Next up is FBD. Blue record. No printed insert. However – I do not recall there ever being a vinyl release of this with the blue skull cover (at least in the USA). There was a limited issue of the brown vagina cover that DID have a printed insert and that was also brown. But for the blue – no. So I’m not really mad there is no insert for this. In fact I am almost disappointed they manufactured this at all instead of going with the brown cover with the proper insert but its fine. Next up is TGST. It’s gold. Yes it has an insert but it’s not a sleeve – just a double sided sheet which looks just like what the gatefold has inside the gatefold. I saw somewhere there is a misprint on TGST label on the record but mine appears fine. As for the songs… here we go – the perpetual debate. As far as I know – there has NEVER been Suicide Note Pt. 1 on any incarnation of TGST vinyl except for the Rhino gatefold reissue. However – there is also the issue of the outro to Floods. The gatefold lacks this. This issue ALSO lacks the highly-loved outro. Guess you need to have the CD if you want Suicide Note Pt. 1 and the Floods outro. So for vinyl my opinion is that the gatefold reissue is the way to go. Lastly – RTS. It’s orange vinyl. Orange is fun. No printed insert but the gatefold did not have it neither probably because it’s a gatefold (lyrics are printed on the inside of the gatefold). In summary – I bought this mainly because of the botched side C of the CFH gatefold but I ended up also with some colored vinyl and Suicide Note Pt. 1. Was it worth it? I’m not sure but my wife sure wonders why I have so many duplicates of so many albums. What could Rhino do to make this perfect? Come up with printed inserts would rule but not a deal-breaker. I understand Suicide Note Pt. 1 will probably never happen (but Rhino certainly could have added it to the gatefold issue which has VAST amounts of dead vinyl begging for it). Oh yeah – the 7” of Piss was cool. This set reminds me of the Dio set. It’s adequate. They would do well to being in subject matter experts to ensure the product they think hits the spot does. I rate this set at a solid B.

My copy of the boxset also has plain white inner sleeves for "Cowboys from Hell" and "Far Beyond Driven" without a lyric sheet, and this confused me. Since my copy of the boxset is second-hand, I figured the previous owner might've screwed something up, so I've went and watched a couple of unboxing videos of this boxset on Youtube.Unfortunately, this is "working as intended" -- in other words, the boxset was indeed manufactured with plain white sleeves for these two albums. I've got no idea why the record company has decided that it's a good idea, because it sucks. Given that "Great Southern Trendkill" copy in this boxset omits some music, I'll be definitely looking for a separate 2LP pressing of it, and maybe other albums as well.

How do these sound as single LPs? This band tends to have some longer songs & cramming them all on to two sides seems like it could make them suffer in terms of sonic quality

I don't like the sound at all. Sounds like mastered from the CD. I have the CFH double, which sounds much better.

I feel like these are definitely lacking in some of the sonic quality that a double would have allowed the room for. I had to turn the volume up on my player, which I don't have to do often. And the mix feels a little more lacking in low-end than I thought it would have. Other than that they are clear sounding, and have a good mix. Everything is present in the mix, but definitely has left me wanting more.

Haven't given any of the albums a spin yet, but immediately noticed that one of my records was mislabeled - my copy of the Great Southern Trendkill received a (strangely color-matched) label for Far Beyond Driven. I verified that the number etched in the inner ring of the record matches that on the spine of the album cover - and it does so I'm not overly concerned about it. Hopefully I can get the pics posted.

I'm really disappointment when dont see the " Suicide Note Pt 1 " track list.. 1st press lp has 1 lp and contains all tracks !! i dont understand.. Fuck!!

I believe it was because they had to compress the album onto a LP, and they would have had to turn it into a double if they included that. Not 100% sure though. I know I was disappointed to see it not on there. Also the guitar at the end of 'Floods' hasn't been included. Has to be an issue with fitting it all on one vinyl.

Does Cowboys From Hell skip at all during Shattered, Clash With Reality and Medicine Man? The 2-LP Rhino release sure as hell does.

Not enough room on the wax probably. They also cut the ending outro solo to "The Floods". This usually is for the sake of the album not having to be pressed on 2xLP because that would not only cost the factory more, but also the customer more. Along with causing for a bigger box to make room for a 2xLP. Also because if they kept those few extra minutes, sure would please some but also would cause for a bad pressing since too much grooves on one side of an LP, causes for a lesser sounding quality record, especially once the needle gets closer to the deadwax.

People are complaining about the box being 'tight'. It's a boxset people. That's how boxsets work - if it rattled every second it would be annoying & not well packaged. I mean they all are pressed on a single LP, 5 LPs, that are SAFELY stored into a well-produced box itself. I highly enjoy this boxset & feel there is no 'tightness', it's a boxset, that's how all boxsets arrive & should so, I would feel robbed if there was extra space in a boxset after paying that price, which is a steal considering just one of the 2XLP Rhino reissues is $24.99, might as well get all 5 of their later albums in one $99.99 buy, & a bonus 7". All on colored wax. In poly inner sleeves. In single jackets like some of them originally were released as.
