Villains is the seventh studio album by American rock band Queens of the Stone Age, released on August 25, 2017 through Matador. The album was announced on June 14, with a teaser trailer taking the form of a comedy skit featuring the band performing a polygraph test with Liam Lynch. The first single, "The Way You Used to Do", was released the following day along with the announcement of a world tour

Nearly two decades later, Queens of the Stone Age are one of the biggest names in contemporary hard rock. Aside from Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails-whose figureheads, Dave Grohl and Trent Reznor, have both appeared on past Queens albums-you’d be hard-pressed to find a group of comparable critical or commercial standing. Further buttressing the group’s ubiquity is Homme’s many collaborations, seen in the frontman’s resume of side projects (Desert Sessions, Eagles of Death Metal, Them Crooked Vultures) and ce stints (Arctic Monkeys, Iggy Pop, the Strokes offshoot CRX). The album’s predetermined angle of Ronson-assisted simplicity is ultimately a red herring. Villains’ songwriting is just as, if not more, devious than anything in the band’s discography.

how did you get the digital download to work? my deluxe pack doesnt have any hints of a code or something and the link from my preorder summary only brings me to the two teaser .wav songs... shodl there be a card with a code or something inside?

I thought mine was missing the download card too, but when i was taking photos of the lyricsheets to add here, it dropped out from somewhere. It's paper-thin. It's probably just stuck in there somewhere with a bit of static holding it in. There's photos of it in the images of this release to help identify it.

There is a download card inside the sleeve where disc 2 is placed. If it's not there maybe you can contact Matodor records. Sometimes record companies give you a new download code when the card is missing.

Yes, the sticker on the US version mentions "pressed on 180 gram vinyl at Pallas", the European version doesn't.

Firstly I think this album is modern masterpiece! I can understand why some fans don't like or even hate this record, but I love it. To me it very much still sounds like a QOTSA album, but has just the right dose of modern swagger thanks to Mark Ronson. As far as this pressing goes, mine sounds great, perfect even. The mastering job is superb. Thankfully CB hasn't tried to win the loudness war instead he's mastered the record so everything is where it should be musically and the soundstage is first class. It almost sounds like a different album compared to the digital version, which I was impressed with, but this pressing is in a class of it's own.The prints and transfers (I think they're transfers?) which come in the package are cool too!

Its well mastered, I agree, a little dry, but it has a nice sound. I think the disconnect is because its public pleasing, its tame, and often undynamic song writing - if you really want to strip it down it's also lyrically very weak. They are reknowned for swagger with immense strength, but many fans like myself are lost in this album, finding it far too obvious.

Just listened to my copy, sounds great all around, no issues at all. I am surprised that it's 3 sides at 33rpm, as Like Clockwork was 4 sided at 45rpm. I feel like if you're going to take a single album and spread it across two records, you might as well do 45rpm to justify it. Otherwise, do a single record at 33rpm and save me the trouble of more flipping. All that being said, it's a good quality release, definitely glad I sprung for the deluxe.

side 1 and 3 sound wonderful and of course side 2 is completely off centre. so badly that I'm shocked the needle even manages to play it. suffice to say it sounds like crap. not sure who is in charge at this pressing plant but they're not doing a great job.

LP1 of my copy is a nightmare. Noisy all the way through. Looks fine, sounds like absolute crap. I'm serious, it's an insult. LP2 is perfect as you would expect from Pallas. Which makes it even more frustrating. I just dont get it. Will try to get a replacement. Hope this is an exception. I mean, if even Pallas is not a guarantee for quality anymore, what's the point? Why do I order expensive deluxe crap and they deliver THIS? Not recommended.edit: Matador UK sent me a european blue Indie version (standard 140g LPs) as a replacement until they can replace my broken Deluxe (the Deluxe is sold out for now). Firstly, I have to say: GREAT customer service, very friendly and helpful guys. And secondly: there's absolutely nothing wrong with the standard LP. At least the one I got now is not noisy at all, it's flat and it sounds terrific! Props to Optimal, I didnt see that coming.

I have the European Deluxe copy and it is DEAD quiet. I was bummed to find out it wasn't pressed at Pallas too, but cannot fault this at all. Optimal have delivered!
