James Taylor is the self-titled debut studio album by American singer-songwriter James Taylor. Released on December 6, 1968, it was the first recording by a non-British artist released by Apple Records, and would also be Taylor's only release on that label. The album was released under the title First Album on the South African market. The album was produced by Peter Asher, who was A&R head for The Beatles' newly formed label Apple Records

Live is the first live album by singer-songwriter James Taylor, released on August 10, 1993, on Columbia. The double album presents selections from 14 shows during a November 1992 tour. Live peaked at number 20 on the Billboard 200 chart, and has sold more than one million copies, being certified 2x platinum by the RIAA. A single-album CD featuring highlights of the double album was also released, titled Best Live.

Hourglass (James Taylor album). Hourglass is singer-songwriter James Taylor's fourteenth studio album. Taylor's first studio album in six years was released in 1997 to glowing notices. It built upon the success of his previous effort, New Moon Shine. The album's lyrics focused largely on Taylor's troubled past and family.

James Taylor is the kind of person I always thought the word folksinger referred to. He writes and sings songs that are reflections of his own life, and performs in them in his own style. All of his performances are marked by an eloquent simplicity. Mr. Taylor is not kicking out any jams. He seems to be more interested in soothing his troubled mind. In the process he will doubtless soothe a good many heads besides his own. Taylor’s music is a mix between country, blues, and some antique folk styles. There is only one problem with this album: some of the production is superfluous. There are a few string arrangements that serve no real function. The horn arrangements sound a bit too British. And on some cuts, James’ voice is not as up front as it should have been. These reservations notwithstanding, this album is the coolest breath of fresh air I’ve inhaled in a good long while.
