The Filth and the Fury is a 2000 British rockumentary film directed by Julien Temple. It focuses on the story of the punk rock pioneers Sex Pistols, and is considered a continuation of Temple's first documentary centered on the band, The Great Rock and Roll Swindle. The Filth and the Fury is the second movie Julien Temple made about The Sex Pistols. His first effort was The Great Rock and Roll Swindle, which was released in British cinemas on 15 May 1980

With their ‘The Filth & The Fury’ headline, the ‘Daily Mirror’ lit the touchpaper for a hate campaign against Sex Pistols in 1977 – as this gallery shows. Sensationalist headlines stuck to Sex Pistols like glue after the Bill Grundy furore, but the knives really came out in the wake of ‘God Save The Queen’ and the band’s legendary River Thames Boat Cruise during the Queen’s Silver Jubilee celebrations. Despite a blanket ban by numerous department stores, the album still topped the UK Top 40 and even survived a legal charge on the grounds that it was indecent printed matter after Virgin Records’ Nottingham store prominently displayed the record sleeve in its window display.

Directed by long-standing Pistols pal Julien Temple, who was also responsible for the band's Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle film, The Filth And The Fury is the full story from the group's struggling early days (which found them using mikes nicked from David Bowie) to the furore surrounding Sid Vicious' alleged murder of smackhead girlfriend Nancy Spungeon.
