Ball and Chain (Norwich Castle Dungeons). B. Squeaky Floorboards (Norwich Castle Keep). Created in conjunction with Michael’s artist-in residence for Build Your Own: Tools for Sharing at the Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery. Black and white artwork is printed onto clear acetate, rubber-stamped white cassette labels are affixed onto the shell. This tape was created in conjunction with a multi-holed lathe cut record of the same name.

Track one is the ominous sound of a heavy ball and chain being dragged across the cobbled stone floor of the lower dungeons; track two is a squeaking floorboard located on the balcony level of the Castle Keep. The intersecting tracks abstractly represent the interlocking metal chains located in the Dungeons of the Castle Museum (an area I made extensive use of during my residency)

Ball and Chain" (also "Ball 'n' Chain" or "Ball & Chain") is a blues song written and recorded by American blues artist Big Mama Thornton. Although her recording did not appear on the record charts, the song has become one of Thornton's best-known, largely due to performances and recordings by Janis Joplin. In the early 1960s,Thornton recorded several songs for Bay-Tone Records. Two were released on a single, "You Did Me Wrong" and "Big Mama's Blues".
