Collective Soul released their eighth studio album, another self-titled, but designated on August 25, 2009 with Roadrunner Records a subsidiary of their previous label Atlantic Records. The first was single "Staring Down" and the second single was "Welcome All Again". Staring Down" charted at Billboard's Adult Top 40.
Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid was one of the first major albums Matt Serletic (Matchbox20) produced. Before it was an MTV and chart success, the album was released on a small indie label in Atlanta, GA, called Rising Storm Records. Their initial version includes one song not on the Atlantic Records version, the orchestral ballad "Beautiful World. This is a reverse of the typical process - usually, major labels insist on an extra track for their releases. In this case, early fans were rewarded for obtaining the original version.

Their first album, Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid, was recorded as a demo for Roland, who was looking for work as a songwriter. The band played on the album, but doesn't appear together on any of the tracks. The album was issued on an independent label in 1993; the Georgia State University radio station, WRAS, started playing "Shine," which was then picked up by WJRR in Orlando, Florida. Other stations followed suit, and a bidding war broke out for the band.
