West Meets East is an album by American violinist Yehudi Menuhin and Indian sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar, released in Britain in January 1967. It was recorded following their successful duet in June 1966 at the Bath Musical Festival, where they had played some of the same material. The album was issued in America on EMI's Angel Records imprint in June 1967.
This is a reissue of Yehudi Menuhin & Ravi Shankar - West Meets East. Notes on back cover: "O OCIDENTE encontra o ORIENTE Uma colaboração musical entre Yehudi Menuhin e Ravi Shankar". Ravi Shankar's note and Yehudi Menuhin's note, both in portuguese. There is an description of the songs, as well a glossary of Hindu musical terms, written by John Barham.
West Meets East: The Historic Shankar/Menuhin Sessions collects the best from Ravi Shankar and Yehudi Menuhin's three West Meets East albums (originally released in 1967, 1968, and 1976). This compilation features "Prabhati" and "Swara-Kakali" from the first album, "Raga Piloo" and "Dhun" from the second, and "Tenderness" and "Twilight Mood" from the third.
