The Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom is the most celebrated divine liturgy in the Byzantine Rite. It is named after its core part, the anaphora attributed to Saint John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople in the 5th century. It reflects the work of the Cappadocian Fathers to both combat heresy and define Trinitarian theology for the Christian Church.

Divine Liturgy or Holy Liturgy is the Eucharistic service of the Byzantine Rite, developed from the Antiochene Rite of Christian liturgy which is that of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. As such, it is used in the Eastern Orthodox, the Greek Catholic Churches, and the Ukrainian Lutheran Church

02 "Last preparation prayer before Eucharistic Liturgy" 23) 18:03-20:30 "We who mystically represent the Cherubim" Hymn 24) 20:30-21:20 "Petitions for the Pope and clergy, nation, benefactors" actually they did not mean Eastern Orthodox but catholics of the orthodox adjective. 25) 21:21-21:50 "Peak behind the doors at the altar" 26) 21:51-22:05 "More Eucharistic Prayers 27) 22:28-23:58 "The Creed" actually the Orthodox do say "holy catholic church" as in holy universal Church.

As a divine liturgy of the Church of Holy Wisdom, Hagia Sophia, it became over time the usual divine liturgy in the churches within the Byzantine Empire. Byzantine Rite Lutheranism (also known as Byzantine Lutheranism or Eastern Lutheranism) refers to Lutheran Churches, such as those of Ukraine and Slovenia, that use a form of the Byzantine Rite as their liturgy. The first published Liturgy of the Eastern Rite was in 1933. The English text of the rite now in use is almost identical to that of the original printing.

The Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom was probably the divine liturgy used originally by the School of Antioch and was, therefore, most likely developed from West Syrian liturgical rites. In Constantinople, it was refined and beautified under John's guidance as Patriarch of Constantinople (398–404). Having become the liturgical form of the Church of Holy Wisdom, Hagia Sophia, it became over time the normative liturgical form in the churches within the Byzantine Empire. The two liturgical rites of St. John Chrysostom and St. Basil in the Byzantine Church became the norm by the end of the reign of Justinian I. After the Quinisext Council and the liturgical reforms of Patriarch Theodore Balsamon, the Byzantine Rite became the only acceptable Eastern Rite in the Orthodox Church.

The choir has made a few recordings, but this is the only one I know of on a major label. The liner notes for this release are informative, and include an overview of Byzantine music, a section by section description of the music sung here, and the complete text of the Liturgy with indications for Priest, Choir (left and right), and Reader. Also included are a picture and description of the famous 12th century Abbaye de Fontevraud, where the recording was made. It is important to understand what is actually being performed here.
