Joshua Breakstone (born July 22, 1955) is an American jazz guitarist. Breakstone came into contact with the music business early in life through his parents and siblings. His sister was a lighting technician at the Fillmore East theater, where he saw musicians such as Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa. Later, he became interested in jazz and was influenced by Charlie Parker and Lee Morgan. He studied with guitarist Sal Salvador in Manhattan

An understated yet incredibly fluid bop stylist, Breakstone displays a thorough mastery of Powell's compositions, from early classics like "Tempus Fugit" and "Un Poco Loco" to later works like "Comin' Up" and "The Scene Changes. Other highlights include a wonderfully laid-back "Celia" (dig the "Merry Little Christmas" quote) and the beautiful ballad "Time Waits," on which Breakstone's custom Carl Barney guitar truly sings.
