The discography of Billy Idol, his solo recordings post-Generation X, consists of eight studio albums, one live album, five compilation albums, one extended play, and 37 singles. Greatest Hits and Devil's Playground failed to chart in The Official UK Top 75 Albums Chart (published by Music Week), but did chart on the complete Top 200 UK Chart published by Charts+Plus (published mainly for music business statistics).

On March 22, 2005, Billy Idol returns to music with his first album of new material in over 12 years. Way too long in my book. While on tour prior to the album, Billy was approached by Sanctuary Records to record an album. The trick was that they wanted it in the old Billy style and sound. As a result, Billy, Steve Stevens and producer Keith Forsey re-teamed to record the album. Yep, the gang was back together and I couldn’t be more happy. Along for the ride was Stephen McGrath on bass, Derek Sherinian on keyboards and Brian Tichy on drums. From the opening track, Super Overdrive, you know that Billy is back and in full force. The opening line all set’s the tone with In the Devil’s Playground, With an Idol mind, Straight up, ready to go, Announce the time. He basically announces that he is back and ready to set things on fire. The song is a full of angst (a la Green Day) yet classic Billy.

Devil's Playground is the sixth studio album by English rock vocalist Billy Idol, released on 22 March 2005. It is his first studio album in over a decade (the latest being 1993's Cyberpunk), and his first new studio songs since 2001 (Idol's cover of "Don't You (Forget About Me)" on Greatest Hits). The album also reunited Idol in the studio with guitarist Steve Stevens and producer Keith Forsey. All songs were written or co-written by Idol except "Plastic Jesus"
