Australian WRC 1st pressing, sourced from original stampers and featuring unique sleeve art. Mono and stereo versions have same number on back of sleeve (S/T4097) - the mono version has "T-4097" on beige 'strobe' label, while the stereo has "ST-4097" on green 'strobe' label. The stereo version has a printed "stereo" rosette on the back, and the mono has a red sticker with "mono" placed over this (though these tend to drop off with age).

Wagner: Great Scenes from The Ring.

Karajan's interpretation is great, and Janowitz is the best Sieglinde ever recorded. Tracks 14 - 16 of the 2 CD Panorama set will take your breath away. Also, there are singers in the Solti's set that are just decent and reliable but nothing more, George London and James King for example. Both are quite dependable, but the former, though possessing a much more powerful voice, is no match for the brilliant dramatic inflection that Fischer-Diskau brings to the text, and the latter, though musical and lyrical enough, simply cannot hold a candle to the burning intensity of Jon Vickers as Siegmund.
