Dance Suite (Hungarian: Táncszvit; German: Tanz-Suite), Sz. 77, BB 86a, is a well-known 1923 orchestral work by the Hungarian composer Béla Bartók. The composer produced a reduction for piano (Sz. 77, BB 86b) in 1925, though this is less commonly performed. Symphony Orchestra of Hungarian Radio and Television. LP. Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
Zoltán Kodály composed his Peacock Variations for the fiftieth anniversary of the Concertgebouw Orchestra which was formed in 1888. The work was premiered by the Amsterdam ensemble in 1939. This symphonic work is in three sections, and the composer creates the apotheosis of folk song as he subjects one of the most ancient folk music melodies to a set of inventive variations.

Whether it's Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, Léo Weiner or even Ernst von Dohnányi, I've always been partial to hearing their music presented by Hungarian-born conductors. And a good many of these artists made Hungarian music a focus of their attention - whether it's the "local heroes" like János Ferencsik, György Lehel and Iván Fischer or the "distinguished diaspora" of Ferenc Fricsay, Antal Doráti, István Kertesz, Fritz Reiner, Arpad Joó and Eugene Ormandy - one can be assured of hearing authentic interpretations of the creations of Hungary's greatest. Kodály composed this piece for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's 50th anniversary, and following the premiere of the work in 1940, some annotations were hand-written into the orchestral parts that then languished in the CSO's music library for the next 75+ years.
