Ashford & Simpson were an American husband-and-wife on team and recording duo of Nickolas Ashford (May 4, 1941 – August 22, 2011) and Valerie Simpson (born August 26, 1946). Ashford was born in Fairfield, South Carolina, and Simpson in the Bronx, New York City. Afterwards, his family relocated to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he became a member of Christ Temple Baptist Church.

Featured singles include the up-tempo classic Top Ten R&B hit 'Street Corner' and the mid-tempo love ballad 'Love It Away'.

Ashford & Simpson came up with an intriguing tack for this early-'80s session: take a contemporary situation and use a quasi-operatic format to illuminate it. The only problem came in the execution; the songs weren't up to the concept, although most weren't terrible. They were just good, faceless urban contemporary dance and love tunes, hardly the kind of transcendent things needed to make this worthy of operatic pretensions.
