Ashford & Simpson were an American husband-and-wife on team and recording duo of Nickolas Ashford (May 4, 1941 – August 22, 2011) and Valerie Simpson (born August 26, 1946). Ashford was born in Fairfield, South Carolina, and Simpson in the Bronx, New York City. Afterwards, his family relocated to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he became a member of Christ Temple Baptist Church.

ASHFORD & SIMPSON, simply put, are one of the best song-writing duos the world has ever seen. Former successful Motown writers this powerhouse duo penned a string of hits for greats like Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross, it’s little wonder that they were inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in 2002. 1980’s A MUSICAL AFFAIR was their eighth and final studio album for Warner Bros. with esteemed NY session players Ray Chew and Ralph MacDonald to name a few rounding out the duo’s band on the record.
