Christmas In Vienna (Live).

This 52-track Diana Ross and the Supremes Anthology adopts the same basic chronological approach as its predecessors, and like the 1986 album includes Supremes songs from the '70s, taking the group from 1961 to 1976. Ross bid farewell at the start of 1970. The sole unreleased track is a fascinating public service announcement written and produced by Phil Spector, "Things Are Changing. ) This gives the album stylistic consistency, at least through its first disc, though the continuing decision to lump the post-Diana Ross material in at the end remains questionable. But the most bizarre aspect of this Anthology is the choice of presenting most of the tracks in monophonic sound.

The double disc, 41-track album (which was not released commercially in the United States) details Ross' career as a solo artist and with The Supremes. Also included are duets with Lionel Richie, Marvin Gaye, and The Temptations ("I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" sung with The Supremes). The only new track in the set is a cover of the Gerry Goffin/Carole King song "Goin' Back", recorded especially for this collection and released as a single in several markets.

Initially, Ross was not pleased with the album's results. Ross remixed the entire album, assisted by Motown engineer Russ Terrana, removing extended instrumental passages and speeding up the tracks' tempos. The remixing of the master tapes were performed without the knowledge or approval of Rodgers and Edwards.
