Silver & Gold is the 23rd studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young, released on April 25, 2000. Many of these songs were written in the late 1990s, though the title track was written in 1981; by his own estimation, he had been trying to get "the take" on this song for around ten years. The album was a nominee for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year – Solo at the 2001 Juno Awards. The album art is a photo taken by Neil's daughter Amber with the Game Boy Camera. release uses HDCD encoding.

Workin' hard every day Never notice how the time slips away People come, seasons go We got something that'll never grow old. I don't care if the sun don't shine And the rain keeps pouring down on me and mine 'Cause our kind of love never seems to get old It's better than silver and gold. I used to have a treasure chest Got so heavy that I had to rest I let it slip away from me Didn't need it anyway so I let it slip away.

Revisiting Neil Young’s Vault-Clearing ‘Silver and Gold’. As the 20th century gave way to the 21st, Neil Young showed little sign of slowing the breakneck pace he’d set for himself all the way back when he was kicking around with Rick James in the Mynah Birds in the early '60s. Released on April 25, 2000, Silver & Gold was his 28th studio record, not counting his work with Buffalo Springfield or Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and it found the singer returning once again to the country-rock roots that first made him a solo.

Neil Young's Silver & Gold concert video was recorded at Austin, Texas' Bass Concert Hall during his 1999 solo acoustic tour and spotlights its namesake album, along with a few of his classics. The intimacy of songs like the title track, "Daddy Went Walkin'," "Long May You Run," "Harvest Moon," "Good to See You," and "The Great Divide" is heightened by the solo live setting, and presented beautifully in widescreen format

15 years ago today, Neil Young released his 24th studio album, an effort which delivered a sonic return to his country-tinged sounds of his ‘70s material. This was not a bad thing. Recorded at various points during the late ‘90s (between August 26, 1997 and May 28, 1999, to be more specific), Silver & Gold found Young in a more thoughtful mood than he’d often been during the ‘80s and ‘90s, . the angry old man period which found him delivering tracks like This Note’s for You. and Rockin’ in the Free World  . Silver & Gold – "This one says to me that relationships are more important than material things. You could take a look at me and say I was really full of it, because I have so many possessions it's ridiculous. But it's dawning on me how useless most of them ar.
