Ticho Parly Sings Wagner has been added to your Cart. Mr Parly was born in Copenhagen, and, as a young bass-baritone, made his way to New Orleans, where he studied with the inimitable Charles Paddock, who "insisted" he was a tenor. If Mr Parly was not as poetic in this music as Jon Vickers, or even René Kollo, the immense scale of the singing and passionate declaration are thrilling. If he was sometimes a proponent of the "Bayreuth bark," to exciting effect, here his approach combines singing and acting on a high level of accomplishment, with a truly unique voice. He must have had a contract with DG, however: Two further excerpts, "probably intended for a future recording," were made at the same time of the Wagner album, were never published and are included on this CD.
René Kollo (tenor), Ingrid Haubold (soprano), Orchester der Deutschen Oper Berlin, Christian Thielemann. Expressiveness and intelligent acting: For Herbert von Karajan he was the ideal Wagner singer. But René Kollo didn’t only shine as a heroic tenor. He also possessed immense versatility, reaching a large audience both as an expressive actor on the opera stage, and with his concert and television appearances and in his roles in operetta films. And for all these different activities, he never forsook his credibility as a serious singer.
