The originals tend to be tricky, and even such standards as "I'll Remember April," "You Don't Know What Love Is" and "Get Out of Town" have their surprising moments.

The Fabulous Thad Jones is the debut album by American jazz trumpeter Thad Jones recorded in 1954 and originally released on Charles Mingus' Debut Records label as a 10-inch LP. The album was later re-issued as a 12-inch LP titled simply, Thad Jones. The Fabulous Thad Jones (Debut DLP-12) was initially released with a total of 6 tracks recorded on 11 August 1954

The 1954 sessions with Kenny Clarke and Frank Wess are almost as fine as the later ones but a bit more controlled and distinguised and the sound quality is not quite as briliant as the '55 sessions. A great (debut!) recording by one of the three brilliant Jones brothers. By the way: Hank Jones is the accompanist on the 54 sessions, thoughtful as always. 2 people found this helpful.
