The soundtrack to 2001: A Space Odyssey is so recognizable, yet it's so unique. Opting for classical music, Stanley Kubrick nails it with this epic-sounding, larger than life soundtrack that helps tell the story. The music is a perfect fit to each sequence that calls for slow, subtle images, as well as depicting feelings of loneliness or despair. Finally, I can listen to the lovely compositions chosen for Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) without ads. I don't even if it is worth analyzing, only because I won't be saying anything new. But personally, I always found this soundtrack truly original. Released by Intrada in 2007 (Special Collection Vol. 38) containing music from 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). This is a release of North's original recording of the score, not a re-recording. I want to stress that point because it took me a while to realize exactly what Intrada was offering – no less than an important piece of film music history. Perhaps the best part of this release (and why I would recommend it even if you have a different recording) are the CD liner notes.
