this commemorative reissue of music from 2001: a space odyssey combines the also sprach zarathustra theme, various johann and richard strauss segments, and a ballet suite by aram khachaturian-all of which prove how much stanley kubrick's film attempts to avoid the soundtrack clichs of most science-fiction movies. instead of the expected sci-fi effects, there is a more ironic application of music that would be otherwise incongruous to the celestial settings

Price this film as well as Star Wars left me awed by classical music! anyway I recently purchased a decent turntable and decided to try some classic vinyl,as well as gawk at an original albums cover art,which. as a kid was very entertaining,this album sounds great,though I have to crank it up a bit because the amp. Is in the record player! The problem today with most modern receivers is that mid to low price ones do not have phono amps.

2001: A Space Odyssey is the 1968 science fiction novel written by Arthur C. Clarke and the 1968 film directed by Stanley Kubrick. It is a part of Clarke's Space Odyssey series. Both the novel and the film are partially based on Clarke's 1948 short story "The Sentinel", an entry in a BBC short story competition, and "Encounter in the Dawn", published in 1953 in the magazine Amazing Stories.
